Getting lost was never one of my hobbies. I hated getting lost…then why a story about it??? Read on:
I could never really grasp the concept of masala movies. The ones where twins would go missing in the huge kumbh mela only get back together as adults and that too in the middle of fighting scenes
My story starts in a mela as well. In the great Baliyatra festival in Cuttack…. simple tale to be told here
I was too engrossed in food and my parents in buying stuff.
RESULT: I go missing for the first time
MOTHER: Hysteric and Weeping
FATHER: Calm and trying to do some rapid thinking while looking for me
ME:Busy eating with some other family
Thats how it all started fellas
The only other notable ‘gone missing’ incident in school was when i’d ended up in a new town altogether. Slept off in the bus … only to get down in Puri instead of Bhubaneswar. This time Mom was cool…she still thinks till date that i was in my tution classes and lucky for me that she doesn’t read blogs.
As a teenager i kept getting lost on a regular basis. Was getting to be a pro at it. But this time the capers were with a gang of buddies. All of us with a cumulative road sense IQ in the negetive used to forget roads without fail
The icing in the cake would be all of us pointing in different directions and yelling out “This way…Gang”
Moving out of the city into Nepal straight away. Kathmandu to be a bit more specific. Thamel street to be even more specific. We were promised the finest street food in Nepal and we took the bait (We meaning me and a brady bunch of friends as usual)
Lost again only to end up in one of the shadiest and darkest nooks of the town selling all sorts of what not. Scared out of his wits a close buddy bought everything that was thrust upon his face by the sales men. His shopping that day included 3 identical wallets and 2 khukri’s amongst everything else
I was getting restless…Had to discover the fact as to why i used to keep getting lost.
Asked my mother if father to used to do the same.
“Your father had one of the best road senses around. In fact he was someone who could conjure up roads out of nowhere”
There goes my genetic angle i thought.
Asked her if she had accidentally bumped my head somewhere as a kid. A sugar coated question
I didn’t wanna seem as if i was accusing her.
“No” was her curt reply followed by a glare
All theories to expain my road sense were taking a severe beating. Then it came to me as a bolt from the blue. A smile and a smirk . I had an answer for all the questions
SAME QUESTION:NEW ANSWER
Why do you get lost so often?
I love getting lost
have you ever lost your way and explored new avenues. Its incredibly thrilling.
Ahhh salvation at last…….
All my tragical escapades were turning into popular tales of adventure. The Nepal story was a huge hit so was the Puri incident. Friends/ Cousins wanted more stories
I was being asked about new roads/ food joints/ Hang out places !!!!!
Latest escapade…. Adventure rather: Getting lost in the Churchgate area of Mumbai and roaming about for 2 hours on foot looking for an office.
(It was right besides the railway station where i had gotten down)
Churchgate area has some neat food joints and queer shops. Ask me next time you go there. Better still drag me along.
Would like to end this saying sorry to all my poor pals who were my victims at some point of time. Victims of my road sense rather.
I LOVE GETTING LOST…..
